When we started our operations in 2018, we thought that one way we could make a meaningful impact was through teaching foreign languages to children in underserved communities. However, we realize that many of these children could not read or write in Spanish even though they were attending school.
Literacy+ is a Colombian educational innovation inspired by the principles of the “Teaching at the Right Level” (TaRL) methodology developed by India’s Pratham organization.
In 2020, we designed the first prototype of the Literacy+ Kit, combining play and flexible methodologies to improve reading, writing, and math skills in children who are behind in their educational journey.
A student-centered methodology focused on learning level rather than age or grade.
Teacher training and mentorship to support the implementation of the methodology and kit with students.
One kit per teacher, including over 10 games and an implementation guide.
One guide with play-based activities.
The literacy+ Kit was recognized in 2020 as a consolidated innovation in the first contest for educational justice in Latin America. MORE INFO
In 2024, we began envisioning the LiteracyPaz Kit—a kit with the same flexible methodology and play-based approach, this time aimed at improving reading and writing from a peace-focused perspective.
The activities in the LiteracyPaz Kit are centered on values for building narratives of peace, reconciliation, and historical memory.
